What we did

Active LD is an inclusive charity helping people with learning disabilities to stay active through organised personal bests events, regular sporting activities and support from trained professionals. They empower people with learning disabilities to participate in regular physical activity, unlocking their personal potential, building confidence, and promoting an overall positive well-being for a happy, healthy life. We were tasked to name and create a brand identity that was engaging and impactful in establishing Active LD as a local community organiser for inclusive sport events in Winchester and Chichester.

Our Creative Approach

The Active LD brand empowers participants putting them at the forefront of the identity, amplified by the icon reflecting the brand’s core mission statement, ‘together we’re active and able’. We chose imagery that encapsulated ideas of collaboration, community, and team work, combined with a bright and engaging colour palette to reflect the vibrancy of the Active LD Community. A key aspect of building the visual identity was making it accessible to people with learning disabilities, so that both volunteers and participants find it easy to navigate and understand information on the website. Using typography specifically created to reduce visual stress and improve reading performance, we chose Lexend as our body copy to provide users with improved reading-proficiency.

Building their website

Once we had established the brand identity, we set out to create a site that showcased the Active LD brand ethos. Using Webflow, we built a site that enables users to easily discover what events are happening, and how to register either as a volunteer or participant. It was also essential to use the website as a window into what volunteering with Active LD is like. Incorporating features such as pop up profiles for each learning disability advisor and charity director, enabled us to give insight into the people behind the organisation.
